WE WON OUR CLIENT $635,000 FOR AN INJURY BY A HIT AND RUN DRIVER IN PENNSYLVANIA

Disclaimer: Your results may vary based on the legal circumstances of your case.

On July 15, 2009, our client was riding his bike down New Gulph Road by Bryn Mawr College, enjoying the noontime summer weather as a teenager should. As he approached the intersection with Bryn Mawr Avenue he was struck by a negligent driver. He suffered serious injuries, and the driver fled the scene of the Pennsylvania car accident.

Our client suffered injuries through no fault of his own. He was riding his bike down the side of the street when he was struck by a vehicle. As a result of the crash, our client, 13 years old at the time, suffered a badly broken leg and severe head injuries.

INJURED BY A HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER

To make matters worse, the operator of the vehicle fled the scene rather than render aid to our client, leaving him to suffer by the side of the road and failing to offer any kind of aid. The driver tried to claim that she thought she’d hit a deer. Thankfully investigators found her car hidden under a tarp to conceal the front-end damage. Rather than checking on our client, the driver feared for herself and fled the scene.

While our client underwent intensive surgeries for the injuries he suffered, the driver spent the next 13 days living her life, driving in a secondary pickup truck rather than confessing her responsibility.

The driver was ultimately convicted of leaving the scene of an accident that caused injury. But justice doesn’t stop there.

GETTING FAIR COMPENSATION FOR A HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT

The driver was convicted, but her actions had long-lasting consequences for our client. Even after intensive surgeries he couldn’t walk away as though the incident had never happened. As a result of his head injuries he suffered from trouble with his balance as well as difficulty with hearing in his right ear.

His family life was thrown into chaos as well. They constantly had to worry about the lasting effects of the injuries while caring for him during his lengthy recovery. Even months after the accident he couldn’t walk for long periods of time without beginning to limp.

On top of all of the stress caused by the incident, the family also had to contend with the expensive medical bills that came along with surgeries and long-term care. The driver’s conviction couldn’t make up for all of these expenses.

When the family contacted our office we reviewed the case and knew we could help them. Our Pennsylvania car accident lawyers have decades of experience with Pennsylvania car accident liability laws and were able to apply that knowledge to the family’s case. We filed a civil suit against the driver to pursue compensation for our client’s medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and pain and suffering.

In September of 2012, we were able to reach a settlement and get $635,000 for our client. Although nothing can make up for the needless pain he and his family endured after three years of criminal and civil court, we were able to work to win them the compensation they deserved and make their continued road to recovery a little easier. Thankfully, our client has recovered quite well and was able to continue playing sports and prepare for college.
